Regions of Biscay - Gran Bilbao
It's called Gran Bilbao Vizcaya a region formed by all municipalities located along the Nervión.
Greater Bilbao can be divided into several subcomarcas:
- The city of Bilbao
- The Left Bank: formed by Barakaldo, Sestao, Portugalete and Santurce
- The Right Margin: formed by Erandio, Leioa and Getxo
- The Mining Area: Valley Trápaga, Abanto Ciérvana, Ortuella and Muzkiz
- The Valley Asúa: formed by Sondika, Derio, Zamudio, Lezama and Larrabezúa
- The High Nervión: formed by Basauri Galdakao and Arrigorriaga.
These municipalities must be added to Arrankudiaga, Barrika, Górliz, Lemóniz, Plentzia, Sopelana, Miravalles, Ceberrio Urduliz and that according to the Regional Planning Guidelines for Euskadi, form the functional area of metropolitan Bilbao.
Therefore, that according to the official definition given to the Bilbao area can say that is so, for example, Barakaldo (or any of the municipalities that make up Greater Bilbao) as Bilbao is, since they are a single metropolitan area (because that Bilbao also refers, in addition to the city, metropolitan area). The same situation occurs in many other metropolitan areas of Spain such as Barcelona.
